Mallard class working at home

Well done to Mallard class who are producing some lovely work from home. Keep it up!

Amazing writing
We have been learning the story of The Sorcerer's Apprentice. The children worked really hard on planning their stories. They thought about characters, settings and solving their own problems at the end. Well done Mallard
Primary Stars at Kingfisher
Over the last few weeks, we have had Lewis from Yeovil Town Football Club come in and work with us during our PE sessions. He has taught us lots about teamwork, respect and we have played lots of new games. As a final goodbye, and in linking with YTFC's adopt a school program, we had a visit from two players from the first team. It was very exciting and we were all given a Primary Stars T-shirt along with a YTFC shirt signed by all the players for our school.
Art with Mr Plumbley
We have been working hard with Mr Plumbley to create lots of beautiful sculptures to go around the school. It's great fun using lots of new materials to create these gigantic pieces.
World Book Day
We had a great day this year on World Book Day. We all came in dressed as our favourite characters and got to introduce ourselves to the class. Over the day, we  completed lots of activities. A big thank you to all involved.
Shrove Tuesday
We had a great time in Mallard learning all about Shrove Tuesday and its place in the Christian calendar. We were also lucky enough to try some pancakes with lots of delicious toppings such as blueberries, syrup, lemon and a little bit of sugar.
Hoopball Tournament
This term , year two took part in an inter school Hoopball tournament against children from Preston Primary School. the children had to work hard as part of different teams to compete in the group stages to get to the final. It was lovely to see the children support each other and meet new children.
Chinese New Year
Today, we celebrated Chinese New Year. We learnt all about the story of the 12 animals of the Zodiac and we spent the day the day completing Chinese activities. We learnt how to make Chinese hats and even wrote out names in Mandarin. In the afternoon, we painted Cherry Blossom trees, completed the chop-stick challenge and even ate Prawn Crackers. A great day all round!
Africa Day
Today, we celebrated Africa day. All of the children came in dressed in the different colours of the different African flags. The children worked with the children from the other classes to complete a range of different African themed activities. In the afternoon, we got to go to the hall and try some foods from around Africa.
BugFest
Today we had some very creepy-crawly visitors in Mallard class. The children were lucky enough to have a visit from Nick at BugFest. We were able to look at, learn about and even hold some of his friends. A great day!
A Midwife Crisis
This year, our Nativity was called a Midwife Crisis. The children worked really hard learning their lines and all of the different songs. They put on a great show to parents and we were all very proud of them. A big thank you to parents for helping with costumes and the learning of lines. Merry Christmas.
Space Day in Mallard
On the 13th November, Kingfisher Primary School celebrated Space Day. As a school, we all came in dressed in costumes and spent the day learning all about space. We were lucky enough to have the Science Dome for the day too. In Mallard, we went inside and learnt all about the Solar System and the stars. It was great fun and we all really enjoyed it.
Visit from Carymoor
We had a visit from Gary who works at the Carymoor education centre in Castle Cary. He talked to us about our impact on the environment and how the choices we make can have huge consequences. In our workshop, we talked about some of the different birds in the UK and we each got to plant some cress in a biodegradable pot. A great day.
Fleet Air Arm Museum
On the 7th November, as part of out topic on Remembrance, we had a great trip to the Fleet Air Arm Museum. We had a great day out and saw lots of amazing planes and helicopters. It was good to make some crafts with Fay and think about all those who gave up so much to serve our country.
Working Scientifically
This term, we have been looking at materials and their properties. We have been able to identify lots of materials around us and can state where they come from. Earlier in the term, we designed and carried out an experiment to see which materials were waterproof. Amazingly, the paper towel kept the water out!
Alpaca Visit
We had a visit from some very soft friends this term. We were lucky enough to have two Alpacas on our school playground. We found out lots on information about where they came from and their soft wool. After that, we were able to feed them and stroke their fur.
Our Big Write
We worked really hard this week learning all about the story of Goldilocks. We talked through the story Mr Green read. We discussed ways to make it better using lots of exciting adjectives and detail. After this, we worked really hard to create our own versions and we were really proud of them.
Art with Mr Plumbley
At Kingfisher, we are very lucky to have Mr Plumbley come in and work with us. He is a fantastic artist and we really enjoy making different things with him. We can't wait to see some of our artwork appearing round the school.
A great start to year 2
We have had a fantastic start to the new school year in Mallard class. The children have been working hard in English, identifying targets for the year and writing all about their summer break. In Maths, the children have been learning about partitioning and how numbers can be split into Tens and Units.
