British Values
At Kingfisher, we educate our children in a number of key areas of British Values:
Rule of Law
Our children understand the principles of rules and what they set out to achieve. They follow our school rules for behaviour both in and out of the classroom, and learn to articulate their thoughts and opinions.
Democracy
We ensure all children understand the principles of democracy and the process this follows. In the Autumn term, we hold a whole school ballot where pupils in each class can decide if they would like to stand for the school council. The process involves writing their own manifesto and sharing this with the class. After all manifestos have been shared, each pupils gets a blind vote to select their class representative. Our School Council are a key part of our 'Pupil Voice'. They meet regularly with their class and senior leaders to ensure that children's voices are heard and valued.
We have a number of councils where pupils have the opportunities to take the lead and work collaboratively to improve the school. These include:
Tolerance of faiths and beliefs
From EYFS to Year 6, we develop out children's cultural capital through educating them about different faiths and beliefs. We share stories, welcome visitors and go on trips to develop children's understanding of the world around them. One example of this was the Diwali dance workshop which all pupils thoroughly enjoyed.
Individual liberty
We provide all children with the opportunity to choose and become independent learners. This takes many forms including: After school enrichment clubs, activities at playtimes, enriched curriculum opportunities and future career visits.
Mutual Respect
Children learn to work together, play together to grow together. We ensure we provide all children with a diverse and balanced curriculum to prepare them for the next stage of their learning.
