    Year 2 is taught by Miss Jones with Miss Guinea working in class as the Learning Support Assistant. Other staff working with the children include: Miss Roberts for Music every Thursday and Mr Bourne for PE each Monday. Below, you will find an overview of our learning throughout the year.     Pantomime

    The children had an AMAZING time at the pantomime this year watching Beauty and the Beast! What a brilliant show! Thank you so much to the PTA who made this all possible. It was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. A big thank you also to our lovely voluntary helpers who kindly gave up their time to come with us. 

    Christmas Lunch

    As per tradition, today it was the annual Christmas lunch. The children had a brilliant time tucking into their delicious Christmas lunches, pulling crackers and telling jokes all while Christmas music was playing! A fabulous time was had by all. Thank you to the lovely staff who work behind the scenes to make this all possible. 

    Christingles

    Mallard Class were very excited to make their own Christingles with Reverend Sarah today. The children learnt all about the different elements of the Christingle and what each part symbolises. 

    Nativity

    Mallard Class have worked really hard this term to put on a masterclass Nativity performance and I think it is fair to say their efforts paid off! What an AMAZING show! Well done everyone, you made us all incredibly proud, and it was a joy to see you all have so much fun up on the stage relishing every moment! 

    Lighting

    Today, in Computing the children learnt all about the importance of lighting when taking pictures. 

    Road Safety

    Today, we had a very important workshop all about road safety. I was very impressed with the way that the children approached the workshop and engaged with the session. Well done, Mallards! 

    Children in Need

    Portrait or Landscape?

    As part of our Photography unit in Computing this term, the children explored when it was suitable to take pictures in portrait or landscape format. To do this, they took pictures of a range of different objects and backgrounds to decide which was better. 

    Interfaith Day

    Carymoor Visit

    Mallard were very lucky to have a visit from Gary who works at Carymoor today. He delivered a brilliant workshop all about food waste and they even got a chance to design their own food waste bins which was a big hit with the children!   

    Money

    This week, the children have been learning all about money! Today, the children were tasked with using different combinations of money to make a specific amount for each item in the toy shop. 

    Room on the Broom

    In English, we have been basing all of our work around the popular children's book 'Room on the Broom'. Today. the children had a really fun time retelling the story using role play! I was very impressed with their fantastic team work not to mention their brilliant acting skills! 

     Climate Change

    In Geography, we have been exploring climates. Today, the children enjoyed making their own posters about the impacts of climate change and what we can do to help stop causing climate change. 

    Inter-house Handball

    Today, the children had a brilliant time competing in their houses for the annual inter-house handball tournament. It was fantastic to see all the children involved and working so well together in their teams. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all and congratulations to Wessex who were this year's winners!  

     

    Quentin Blake Illustrations

    This term, the children have been exploring the work of Quentin Blake in our drawing topic. They were all very excited to be able to pick their favourite characters from books that Quentin Blake had illustrated and have a go at replicating them using the skills we have been learning this term.

    Careers Day

    A brilliant day was had in Mallard class today learning about a range of different careers from the lovely volunteers who came into school to tell us about their jobs. Thank you to everyone that came in!  

     Moving Vehicles

    Our DT project this term was to make a moving vehicle. The children carefully designed their success criteria to meet the design brief and worked hard to make sure they followed their designs. The children had so much fun making their moving vehicles, and it was great to see their creativity and problem-solving skills shine through. Well done, Mallard! 

    Chance2Shine Cricket

    This term, we were very lucky to have Sean from Somerset Cricket in school to deliver cricket coaching. All of his sessions were super engaging and it was great to see the children develop their skills over the past 7 weeks! Thank you, Sean!
